On Tuesday, an Amtrak train headed to New Orleans with 152 passengers and 11 crewmembers struck an 18-wheeler passing over train tracks in Holmes County, Miss. Fortunately, there were no reports of serious injuries, however, a passenger and crewmember of the train were taken to local hospitals. There is no word yet on the possible cause of the collision, but an Amtrak spokesman stated the accident occurred at a marked public crossing.
In this case, several parties may benefit from seeking the advice of an experienced injury attorney. Obviously, the two known injured parties may seek compensation from the operator of the 18-wheeler and the employer trucking company, and Amtrak and its employees.
Furthermore, in my experience with impact accidents, soft tissue injuries often manifest themselves a day or two later. If you believe you may be injured, it is always best to contact an experienced injury attorney who can arrange an appointment for you with a doctor experienced in treating these types of injuries.
Once we see to it that your injuries are being treated, we will begin a thorough investigation into the causes of the accident. Unbeknownst to most people, these types of commercial vehicles–18-wheelers and trains–contain devices that record the speed the vehicle was traveling at the time of the accident, as well as other data that may be helpful in determining fault.
At Cueria Law Firm, L.L.C., we have 25 years of experience to guide us in our investigation of accidents such as these. Our first priority will be to make sure your injuries are being treated. Then we will get to work for you to determine who is responsible for compensation for your injuries.
